Summer Youth Habitat for Humanity trip - June 24-29
Looking for something to do when school is out? How about our start of summer youth mission trip? We will leave from the church after service on June 24 and return on Friday afternoon, June 29. Again we will go to Chambersburg, PA and hopefully, as in the past, work on building homes both in the Chambersburg area and Hagerstown, MD.
We will stay in a dorm at Wilson College in downtown Chambersburg where we will also have our meals. (Actually we will breakfast at Wilson College, have lunches provided by them to take to the worksite and have a few dinners there also. We usually have one night out at a family style restaruant, and one night out a an Italian Pizza/Pasta place.)
Each year is a different experience. We try to have work on a house that Habitat is constructing, but also could get involved in other non-new construction projects such as home repairs, helping out at a Habitat Restore store in Hagerstown, or even working at a food bank, packaging and distributing food to needy families.
The mission trip is open to all youth who are at least 15 years old. Note: You do not need to be a member of Immanuel to attend. Click here for the registration form.
If interested please contact Russ Carlton at IPC.
(Cost is now $350 per person. This includes most meals. Each person should bring $60-$80 cash with them for a few dinners out, snacks and an arcade outing.)
Immanuel’s New Youth Director
We are excited to announce that Chris Samsen has enthusiastically accepted our offer to serve as Immanuel’s Youth Director. He is currently at Princeton Theological Seminary and will graduate in late May. He will start at Immanuel on June 4. He interned at First Presbyterian Church in Red Bank, NJ and is currently working there part-time as a Youth Associate for the high school youth group. He worked at Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, CT as a Mission Associate and an Interim Coordinator for the middle school programs. In those different positions, he led and/or coordinated youth ski trips, mission trips (including one to Juarez, Mexico), youth Sundays, Bible studies, confirmation classes, and other fellowship, service and faith-building activities for youth. He earned his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University and some of his hobbies include sailing, biking, hiking and playing the cello. “I am passionate about youth ministry and view it as an essential part of the church – not only because youth are the future of the church, but are the church now.” We look forward to welcoming Chris and his finance Katie Chatelaine to our Immanuel family. We would also like to thank Elizabeth Hefferon, Doug Mar, Craig Saunders and the entire Youth Ministries Committee for organizing our youth programs during this interim time. They have blessed our youth with their commitment and enthusiasm.
