 Service Opportunities
During the School Year

Both Middle Schoolers and Senior Highs are encouraged to volunteer with Immanuel’s Changing Lives program. To find out more about this important service opportunity contact Derrick Crandall.

Middle Schoolers are encouraged to participate in several service projects during the school year, including:
Gleaning apples in the Shenandoah on Columbus Day
(the apples go to area food banks)
Sending out Halloween Care Packages to Immanuel’s College Freshmen
Walking in the Fannie Mae Walkathon

All youth continue to have a ministry with Langley Residential Support Services, a local non-profit agency that provides group homes and life-skills training for people who are mentally retarded. LRSS activities traditionally include a Halloween Party and a Christmas Party. Contact Youth Director Jim Stover for more information. The youth also host the LRSS Summer Reading Program -- see below for details.

Summer Service Opportunities

Each summer our Senior High youth and adults travel to workcamp sites to construct or rehabilitate homes. The Summer 2008 trips was held in Chambersburg, PA, and Gaithersburg, MD, during July. See the photos.

We continued our summer reading program  with Langley Residential Support Services in Summer 2008 (see the photos). This program brings our youth together with adults with mental retardation who live in Fairfax County. Everyone who has participated in this program, whether youth or adult, has learned something. For more information about Langley Residential Support Services, please visit their website at www.langleyresidential.org.

In the Summer of 2006, Immanuel Youth traveled to Honduras to help at the Copprome Orphanage. See photos and stories from the trip.

Senior High Leadership Opportunities
Our Senior Highs have an opportunity to take part in a variety of religious organizations/activities both inside and outside the Immanuel community. Senior Highs are encouraged to serve as worship leaders, committee members, church school teachers or nursery aids. In the larger community, Senior Highs represent Immanuel in Youth of Faith events sponsored by the McLean Clergy Association, at National Capital Presbytery meetings (as Youth Delegates) and at retreats and meetings planned and sponsored by the Presbytery Youth Connection.

Youth of Faith
Our Middle Schoolers and Senior Highs have an opportunity to take part in this local interfaith youth group which meets quarterly for service, worship and fellowship. YOF seeks to foster interfaith understanding.
