Gifts, Memorials and Architectural Review
Supervision of Acquisitions
This committee’s charge is to supervise the acquisition of gifts and memorials consistent with the preservation of the philosophy of simplicity of design which complements the spirit of our church. It is our privilege to prepare, publicize, price, procure and present the gifts and memorials given by members and friends of Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
An on-going list of desired items is kept by the Gifts and Memorials Committee. This “Wish List” is generated by speaking with the committees of the church who recommend items which are beyond their available budgets. This list should be published approximately twice a year as general information. Those wishing to give should contact the Committee or the Church office, who in turn, contacts the Committee chair and the list is sent and discussed with the giver. Thus, the process of dialogue begins, and often new ideas are born.
The Committee would seek approval of the Session before acquiring a significant gift.
The record of gifts is kept in the leather Gifts and Memorials notebooks located on the sideboard in the church reception room.
On a selected Sunday once a year, the bulletin lists all the gifts and their donors for the previous year and those gifts are formally dedicated during the service.
Architectural Review
In addition to the review of unsolicited gifts for appropriateness, it is the duty of this Committee to review any addition to, modification or embellishment of the architecture of the church in order to insure the integrity of the overall design and décor of the buildings and grounds.
Any church committee or employee wishing to change the appearance of the church buildings, furnishings or property should first submit said changes to this Committee in writing for review and approval.
Committee Membership
To serve on this committee, one should have an interest in historical preservation, aesthetic sensibility and Immanuel’s philosophy of simplicity of design.
