Congregational Care

The Congregational Care Committee responds to the special needs of the members of the Immanuel congregation. It is the church in action – touching people’s lives.

The Committee’s primary focus is communicating and acting on the needs of those in the congregation who are ill or grieving or are in some other personal distress. Volunteers make personal visits; send notes of sympathy, cheer or understanding; provide food as needed to those recovering from illness or injury; deliver flowers from the altar; and provide transportation to appointments and worship. The Committee also sponsors a prayer chain and offers training on how to minister to those who are ill or grieving.

Behind the scenes, the committee also performs a number of additional functions:

♦ Hosts a reception following a funeral or memorial service.
♦ Provides pamphlets on life issues at the entrance of the Sanctuary.
♦ Sponsors blood drives and flu shots.
♦ Coordinates a telephone tree for urgent messaging for those without e-mail.
♦ Maintains Immanuel’s End of Life Planning Guide.  See Planning Guide.
♦ Maintains resource information on care giving in the Church Office.
♦ Provides a rosebud on the altar to celebrate a birth to a parent or grandparent in
   the congregation.

The Committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. Our chairs for 2008-09 are Kathryn Mackensen and Nancy Boobas.
