Opportunities for Fellowship

How can I get to know others in the congregation?

There are many opportunities for fellowship at Immanuel. Please plan to stay for coffee after each service so that we may get to know you better and answer your questions. In addition, small group gatherings provide an important venue for meeting others. Some are purely social, such as the Friday evening potlucks of the T.G.I.F. group and the parties and activities, such as golf, purchased to benefit our outreach efforts at the annual auction. The auction itself is a fun annual event anticipated by many as a chance to socialize and help others at the same time. (See our web page on Community Service for details) Several ongoing study groups welcome newcomers, such as the Men’s Bible study and the Joseph Campbell study group. Adult education classes also provide for fellowship while learning more about topics important to faith and spirituality. Committee work is a quick way to get to know others and the workings of the congregation.

How does the Immanuel community offer support to its members?

A call to the pastors or church office will mobilize the Congregational Care Committee. This group of caring people will arrange for meals, rides, companionship, or any other need you may have. A prayer group will add you to the list of people prayed for by its members.

Must I be an official member of Immanuel to attend and participate?

No, some attendees never “join.” But doing so provides a way to meet others, learn more about Immanuel, and assimilate quickly into the life of the church. Newcomers classes meet twice a year (in the spring and fall) and culminate in a special service to welcome new members.

How do I get more details about these activities?

Ask a pastor, elder, and consult  the calendar in our Sunday bulletin and on our website. Call us at (703) 356-3042. We look forward to hearing from you.
